Intel is going to acquire a startup Barefoot Networks to scale up its own network technology and compete with Broadcom.

As the largest chip producer in America, Intel is not yet producing chips for transmitting data over Ethernet. This is the technology by which computers and servers connect to the network. Broadcast has been the leader in this field for a long time.

Navin Shenoy, Executive Vice President, wrote on the company’s blog that the purchase of Barefoot Networks would allow Intel to improve its market position and meet the need for a huge amount of computing power to analyze data and create systems for their exchange with processing centers.

Mr. Shenoy also noted that the transaction would be closed as early as in the third quarter of this year. But he said nothing about the amount of the deal. According to the Vice President, Barefoot Networks will complement their current capacities and offers in the market of the connecting devices.

At the preliminary bidding on Tuesday, Intel shares showed an increase of 2.5%. During this year, the value of the company has fallen by 0.3% to $ 209 billion.
