VTB started sponsoring a payment system “Mir”
Now VTB is serving banks which participate in the payment system “Mir”. This was reported in the press release of the credit institution. VTB is responsible for the providing the participant’s coming into the system.
Moreover, the bank accompanies the further activity, including settlement services of the operations. The processing company “MultiCarta”, which is owned by the VTB Group, provides full technical support, including the terminal equipment certification.
The press release says that Pochtabank as subsidiary of VTB has become one of the first participants of the payment system. “Now Pochtabank, which is daily expanding its branch network, will be able to provide the reception and begin to issue “Mir” cards in the nearest future”, – said Vladimir Komlev, the general director of the National Card Payment System. Being under the control of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, NCPS is an operator of the card payment system “Mir”. The company was established by the Russian government in 2014 as a response to sanctions imposed by the United States against a number of Russian banks. The first “Mir” cards appeared at the end of 2015. Their mass production is scheduled for the second half of 2016. By the end of the year 16 million cards should have been issued.
