In front of the car dealership in Frankfurt, the CEO of Volkswagen (VW) Matthias Müller reported on the global changes in the company’s policy. In practice, this statement will turn into a huge investment in the development of electric vehicles. Already, the sum is estimated at $ 20 billion. The introduction of electro versions of all models of the concern will become the goal of such significant investments. The model line is planned to be completely updated by 2030. 300 types of Volkswagen cars will undergo renovation.
The situation two years ago has become the impetus for such decisive measures. We recall that the concern’s schemes to understate harmful emissions from diesel cars were criticized then.
After this scandal, the company decided to pay attention to new technologies and compete for the leadership in this segment with the company Tesla and the participants of the electric car market.
In seven years, the German concern intends to bring about 80 models of electric cars to the mass market.
To achieve this goal, Volkswagen plans to order batteries for equipping hybrid and electric cars for a total sum of $ 50 billion. The concern has become the first that plans the wide-scale introduction of electric vehicles to the market.
Earlier it was reported that France and England, standing up for the preservation of the environment, were going to ban the sale of diesel or gasoline cars beginning in 2040.
