An American billionaire, investor and philanthropist Warren Buffett has donated to the charity the shares of his Berkshire Hathaway investment company totaling $ 3.4 billion. The investment company made this information public through the issued press release.
About 17.7 million Class B shares were sent to the charitable foundation of Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his wife Melinda, the Susan T. Buffett Foundation (called after the late wife of Mr. Buffett, provides grants for talented but cash-strapped students) and three other organizations.
This is not the first time when the famous financier donates money, a year earlier Warren Buffett did that as well. Then he donated shares worth $ 3.17 billion.
12 years ago, Mr. Buffett publicly promised to donate 85% of his Berkshire Hathaway shares to the charity. Taking into account the last donation, 88-year-old Buffett has already transferred 43% of the shares he owned in 2006 (they were estimated at a total of $ 31 billion).
At the moment, Warren Buffett is worth about 84 billion US dollars. The American billionaire takes the third place in the list of the richest people of the planet. Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, and Bill Gates, principle founder of Microsoft took the first and the second places, respectively.
