Facebook is planning to open a new data center. Singapore was chosen as the place to implement ambitious social network plans. The company will spend one billion US dollars for it.
The social network experiences a lot of pressure. The public demands to stop publishing offensive and provocative materials. Lots of countries require the company to keep the data of citizens within the country. In such circumstances, one cannot guarantee the safety and security of users’ information. At the same time, the number of countries that can provide the necessary infrastructure and free data transmission is being reduced.
Singapore does a lot of work in the field of monitoring social networks. It poses as a reliable site for opening data centers, which can provide security and the necessary infrastructure.
Google, another information giant, also has opened its data center in Singapore. Facebook has chosen the location due to its infrastructure, the attitude of the state to business and the authorities’ desire to turn Singapore into a big hub for such centers.
A new project of the most popular social network in the world will begin its work in 2022. It will be provided with the energy from renewable sources and will become the country’s largest facility of such a scale.
Now Facebook has 14 centers. All of them are located in the countries of Europe and the USA. Asia is a rapidly developing market. About 40% of the users are concentrated in this region, so it is absolutely necessary to establish service here.
