Chairman of the IMF Christine Lagarde said she was leaving her post. The decision was announced before the voting on her election to the chair of the ECB.
Christine Lagarde will leave the IMF in early September. In the remaining time, the board of the fund will be seeking the best candidate for the post.
Chairman Lagarde is now 63 years old. Before joining the IMF, she held posts in the French government. Firstly, she headed the Ministry of Commerce and then the Ministry of Finance. Since 2011, the talented financier has taken a responsible position in the IMF.
In early July, Lagarde temporarily resigned as manager to be able to run for chairman of the European Central Bank. If it turns out that she heads the department, this will be the first time in history when a woman takes this post.
The IMF said that the board fully trusted David Lipton, who would temporarily serve as head of the fund.
Christine Lagarde is in the list of the most influential women in the world. Under her leadership, the IMF was able to restore its reputation, which suffered during the crisis in Greece in 2010. In addition, under its authority, the regulator granted to Argentina the largest loan in history, which amounted to $ 57 billion.
